Wellbeing Walks
The benefits of walking for your wellbeing
We all know that walking is good for us, but why is that? Just 10 minutes a day, getting outside into nature and the sunlight can have amazing benefits on our mental and physical health. But it’s not just that, walking can be a social activity, getting out, making and meeting new friends over a walk and a coffee is really good for your health and wellbeing. It makes us feel good and energised, and it’s all relative, you can do it at any level, and for a simple local stroll you need very little equipment and it’s free! What could be better than that?
Numerous studies have now been done on the benefits of walking for your wellbeing. It will improve your mood and allow you to leave the strains and stresses of the day behind. Many people say that it clears their head and allows them to put troubles and problems into some sort of perspective. Spending time in nature can reduce anxiety and depression and it is possible to find nature everywhere, even in cities, and you can have fun hunting it down.
Physiologically walking is generally low impact and good for your bones and cardiovascular health. It has also been linked with a reduction in can risk. Regular walking can help you to maintain a healthy weight and to feel more positive and optimistic.
Walking is something that can be enjoyed by most people, from a lunchtime office group walk, to a parent and baby group going round the local park, teenagers doing their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and a group of retired friends walking the Pennine Way. The opportunities are infinite and it is just doing to your imagination and desire to turn things into reality.
