Forest Bathing
Forest Bathing has its origins in the Japanese art of Shinrin Yoko. Mind and Body Walking runs half day mindful, calming sessions in beautiful woodland where you can immerse yourself in the forest’s healing properties.
We take you into spruce woodland, where the concentration of phytoncide chemicals is strongest. Simply being in these forest areas for 40 minutes or more is proven to lower your cortisol and blood pressure and have an antimicrobial and antifungal effect on the body.
We will guide you through a range of activities intended to be rejuvenating for your mind and body and will help you to reconnect closer with nature. The trees can be very powerful and many people experience release of tension and stress.
What are the benefits of Forest Bathing?
- Breathing – trees exhale oxygen and take in carbon dioxide. One mature tree takes in 48 pounds of carbon dioxide a year and two mature trees produce enough oxygen for you to breathe for a year! Oxygen is important for us to function and being near them clears our mind and can increase our oxygen saturation levels.
- Relaxing – listening to psithurism – the sound of the wind in the trees and the rustling of leaves – is incredibly relaxing
- Our physiology – being with trees lowers our blood pressure, heart rate and cortisol.
- Killer cells – being around trees enhanced the production of our natural killer cells which boosts our immunity.
- Raises anti cancer protein levels – just being around trees increases the level of this protein in our blood.
- Improvements in our mood – being around trees improves our mood, decreasing rates of depression and fatigue.
- Improvements in our cognitive performance – spending time with trees improves our creativity, innovation and ability to think clearly – great to head out into forests if you have a problem or issue to think through.
