Outdoor Coaching at night
🌙 Outdoor coaching….. at night 🌙
🌑Darkness, peace, focus, silence, atmosphere, stunning tree shapes, stars and moonlight were in abundance on my evening outdoor coaching session last night! 🌑
🌟 I was curious to see what this unique experience would bring up for my client …. and me! I was surrounded with the darkness, which enveloped me like a comfort blanket. The night time nature shapes and “rustles” inspired and we discovered that it supercharged focus on the conversation. Lots of wonderful insights to take away and work on too for my wonderful coaching client and his small business. 🌟
So how did it work?
🦉 we arranged a time as normal, no need for zoom though
🦉 I charged my headtorch and phone, checked the weather and put in my super thick down jacket so that I could dawdle
🦉 checked that my client was also super skilled walking at night, as a qualified Mountain Leader – my pre walk risk assessment had included consideration for his safety walking at night, remotely of me. I would have walked side by side with people not qualified to do this too
🦉 I’m a qualified HML and am experienced navigating at “contour” level at night. Darkness, fog and weather are exciting to me,
🦉 we dialled in and were excited to be chatting about the darkness, night sky and the shapes and patterns then set off on our respective walks – about 1.5 hours, mine around country lanes, tracks and forest and his city streets and a local park
🦉 then we just had a great session, just even more energised and powerful in nature and darkness
What did I learn?
🌌 coaching outdoors at night can be very powerful and great for the client
🌌 the insights gained were strong and my client went away with “A real buzz”
🌌 it may not be for everyone, safety is of paramount importance, a risk assessment, as before any outdoor activity is important
🌌 there are additional considerations such as weather, kit and navigation
🌌 telling people where you’re going and that you’re back safely are good things to do
🌌 it adds an additional experience for my clients
🌌 so this was a great success, I curious about how it would work, and he knew it was a new “challenge” and was up for it.
So growth for my client and significant growth for me, and we both got a fabulous walk under a stary sky! Can’t think of many better ways to spend a coaching session!
There are serious benefits to coaching outdoors for clients. Nature connections and the environment can release thoughts, feelings and ideas. The ideas generated will be a great boost for my client’s business and I’m looking forward to hearing how he gets on.
I can’t wait to go on our next session in a few weeks time.
